What is compensation for disadvantages?

The right to accommodations is enshrined in the Berlin Higher Education Act (BerlHG) and the General Equal Treatment Act (AGG).

Students and applicants who face disadvantages in completing coursework and exams due to a disability or chronic illness are entitled to accommodations.

The goal of accommodations is to take into account the special needs of these students and applicants and to create the conditions for equal opportunities in their studies or in entrance examinations.

Accommodations compensate for disadvantages arising, for example, from a health impairment. Appropriate support measures ensure that entrance exams, coursework, and exams can be completed under fair conditions.

You can also apply to StudierendenWERK BERLIN for additional necessary inclusion services for the entrance exam and for your studies, such as a study assistant or sign language interpretation.
